Abstract
The need for studies on the feasibility of new urban public transport systems comes from an examination of the serious defects of transport systems public current (slow, high cost, low degree of comfort, pollution), all defects that lead people to greater use of private cars in cities with serious consequences on pollution, on increasing the number of road fatalities and on ' further slow increase in both public and private transport.
The type of Italian cities, most often with important historical centers, further complicated the problems of surface traffic. In the metropolis
a partial answer to these problems was found by creating a more or less extensive underground network of public transport, a solution which, however, involves high costs and lead times for any development of the long and uncertain road with serious inconvenience to the surface, for smaller towns to the metropolis of this solution is not feasible, again because of costs, while the problems on the slow surface transport and pollution from them determined in the meantime have been extended to small towns.
Hence the usefulness of taking into account of public transports, yet unexplored, yet could not be fulfilled because of the recent past, using a set of technologies which today are fortunately available to us.
